In the latest episode of Trucking Tomorrow, we sat down with Michael Biafore, CEO of MBE Dedicated Logistics, to discuss his journey from running a one-man operation to managing a growing fleet of trucks serving diverse industries. Michael’s story is a masterclass in leveraging personal values and relationships to create a thriving trucking business.
At just 21 years old, Michael started his company with a single cargo van parked at his parents' house. Today, MBE Dedicated Logistics has expanded to a fleet of eight trucks, specializing in transporting construction materials, luxury goods, and more. Michael's approach was simple yet powerful: focus on trust, consistency, and over-delivering for clients.
Winning new business wasn’t always smooth sailing. Michael recounted his early days of door-knocking to find clients and how persistence eventually paid off. While his first major client came from the previous owner of his van, Michael’s determination to prove himself turned this initial opportunity into a long-term partnership.
“That face-to-face connection, the handshake, is a lot more meaningful than just a random call. You move on if it doesn’t work, but when it does, it can be transformational,” Michael noted.
Michael credits his success to sticking to core values, such as honesty, accountability, and constant improvement. He emphasizes the importance of addressing mistakes head-on and keeping clients informed proactively.
“Nobody wants to deal with a heartless corporation. They want to deal with someone who cares. That’s why accountability and improvement are at the heart of our operations.”
From a basic text-based booking system to a dedicated online portal, MBE’s adoption of technology has been instrumental in improving customer experience and operational efficiency. Michael also highlighted the importance of tools like ELDs, AI cameras, and backend systems to streamline operations and build trust with clients.
MBE Dedicated Logistics is focused on local growth across Canadian cities while leveraging its foundation to eventually expand into LTL and FTL services. Michael is also exploring new ventures, including an international brokerage, with an eye on maintaining the company’s core values.
“If we don’t stick to our values, we won’t grow. The goal is to expand while ensuring that every client interaction reflects who we are as people and as a business,” Michael said.
Michael’s journey reminds us that even in an industry driven by logistics and technology, the human element remains irreplaceable. Whether you’re running a single van or a fleet of 100 trucks, trust and relationships are the true fuel for success.
